Alles platina: Hoe lang elk album van JAY-Z er over heeft gedaan om platina te worden

Deze week heeft JAY-Z nog meer reden om die ene glimmende zin te herhalen die hij 20 jaar geleden voor ons achterliet: “This time around it’s platinum, like the sh*t on my wrist.”

Slechts vijf dagen na de release is JAY-Z’s nieuwste album 4:44 al platina gecertificeerd door de Recording Industry Association of America, nadat het het equivalent van één miljoen exemplaren heeft gestreamd of verkocht. Deze prestatie geeft Hall of Fame Hov nog een mijlpaal, want hij wordt officieel de meest gedecoreerde hip hop act in het RIAA Gold en Platinum programma voor het behalen van 13 platina solo album awards en hoger (17 platina albums in totaal). In wezen maakt dit Jigga’s hele catalogus een platina to-go standaard, gezien het feit dat elk album van hem het miljoen heeft overschreden.

Terwijl het zijn eerdere albums wat tijd kostte om platina te bereiken, zijn Hov’s nieuwste partij releases sneller platina gegaan dan konijnen krijgen … nou ja, je krijgt de uitdrukking. Dus om een beter begrip van deze laatste prestatie te krijgen, namen we een kijkje terug op JAY-Z’s hele catalogus om te zien hoe lang het heeft geduurd elk van zijn albums om platina te gaan.
